Skeleton

Skeleton — in which athletes go headfirst down the track, steering with slight body movements — returned as an Olympic sport during the Salt Lake 2002 Games. A month after his grandfather, Jack, was killed in a car accident, third-generation American Olympian Jim Shea Jr. stunned everyone at Utah Olympic Park by winning the gold, as if a hand appeared out of nowhere and pushed him to the finish. When he removed his helmet, Shea pulled out a photograph of Jack and looked skyward.
